The much-derided film returns to cinemas for its 25th anniversary. Once a rare blot on the galactic landscape, these days itâs far from the only stinker in the canon
Can it really be that there are Star Wars fans who see George Lucasâs Episode I â The Phantom Menace, once considered the emblem of everything that went wrong with the long-running space saga, as a bona fide classic ripe for rehabilitation 25 years on? As the much-derided 1999 film returns to cinemas this weekend, there are rumblings in the ether that millennials, and perhaps those even younger, are completely unaware of just how much of a disaster it was. Then again, perhaps those of us who remember its debut in cinemas should be prepared to listen to voices from a new generation. Was it really so bad after all?
Part of the problem is that where it was once a rare blot on the galactic landscape, a Star Wars movie that failed to live up to the glories of the original trilogy, these days itâs far, far away from being the only rubbish film in the canon. In fact, it could be argued that when considering movies such as the execrable The Rise of Skywalker, the middling Solo: A Star Wars Story and the two painful prequel follow-ups, The Phantom Menace is closer to the mean average for the saga than it is to the bottom of the Dagobah swamp.

Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are the most popular digital assets today, capturing the attention of cryptocurrency investors, whales and people from around the world. People find it amazing that some users spend thousands or millions of dollars on a single NFT-based image of a monkey or other token, but you can simply take a screenshot for free. So here we share some freuently asked question about NFTs.
NFT stands for non-fungible token, which is a cryptographic token on a blockchain with unique identification codes that distinguish it from other tokens. NFTs are unique and not interchangeable, which means no two NFTs are the same. NFTs can be a unique artwork, GIF, Images, videos, Audio album. in-game items, collectibles etc.
A blockchain is a distributed digital ledger that allows for the secure storage of data. By recording any kind of informationâsuch as bank account transactions, the ownership of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), or Decentralized Finance (DeFi) smart contractsâin one place, and distributing it to many different computers, blockchains ensure that data canât be manipulated without everyone in the system being aware.
The value of an NFT comes from its ability to be traded freely and securely on the blockchain, which is not possible with other current digital ownership solutionsThe NFT points to its location on the blockchain, but doesnât necessarily contain the digital property. For example, if you replace one bitcoin with another, you will still have the same thing. If you buy a non-fungible item, such as a movie ticket, it is impossible to replace it with any other movie ticket because each ticket is unique to a specific time and place.
One of the unique characteristics of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) is that they can be tokenised to create a digital certificate of ownership that can be bought, sold and traded on the blockchain.
As with crypto-currency, records of who owns what are stored on a ledger that is maintained by thousands of computers around the world. These records canât be forged because the whole system operates on an open-source network.
NFTs also contain smart contractsâsmall computer programs that run on the blockchainâthat give the artist, for example, a cut of any future sale of the token.
Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) aren't cryptocurrencies, but they do use blockchain technology. Many NFTs are based on Ethereum, where the blockchain serves as a ledger for all the transactions related to said NFT and the properties it represents.5) How to make an NFT?
Anyone can create an NFT. All you need is a digital wallet, some ethereum tokens and a connection to an NFT marketplace where youâll be able to upload and sell your creations
When you purchase a stock in NFT, that purchase is recorded on the blockchainâthe bitcoin ledger of transactionsâand that entry acts as your proof of ownership.
The value of an NFT varies a lot based on the digital asset up for grabs. People use NFTs to trade and sell digital art, so when creating an NFT, you should consider the popularity of your digital artwork along with historical statistics.
In the year 2021, a digital artist called Pak created an artwork called The Merge. It was sold on the Nifty Gateway NFT market for $91.8 million.
Non-fungible tokens can be used in investment opportunities. One can purchase an NFT and resell it at a profit. Certain NFT marketplaces let sellers of NFTs keep a percentage of the profits from sales of the assets they create.
Many people want to buy NFTs because it lets them support the arts and own something cool from their favorite musicians, brands, and celebrities. NFTs also give artists an opportunity to program in continual royalties if someone buys their work. Galleries see this as a way to reach new buyers interested in art.
There are many places to buy digital assets, like opensea and their policies vary. On top shot, for instance, you sign up for a waitlist that can be thousands of people long. When a digital asset goes on sale, you are occasionally chosen to purchase it.
To mint an NFT token, you must pay some amount of gas fee to process the transaction on the Etherum blockchain, but you can mint your NFT on a different blockchain called Polygon to avoid paying gas fees. This option is available on OpenSea and this simply denotes that your NFT will only be able to trade using Polygon's blockchain and not Etherum's blockchain. Mintable allows you to mint NFTs for free without paying any gas fees.
The answer is no. Non-Fungible Tokens are minted on the blockchain using cryptocurrencies such as Etherum, Solana, Polygon, and so on. Once a Non-Fungible Token is minted, the transaction is recorded on the blockchain and the contract or license is awarded to whoever has that Non-Fungible Token in their wallet.
You can sell your work and creations by attaching a license to it on the blockchain, where its ownership can be transferred. This lets you get exposure without losing full ownership of your work. Some of the most successful projects include Cryptopunks, Bored Ape Yatch Club NFTs, SandBox, World of Women and so on. These NFT projects have gained popularity globally and are owned by celebrities and other successful entrepreneurs. Owning one of these NFTs gives you an automatic ticket to exclusive business meetings and life-changing connections.
Thatâs a wrap. Hope you guys found this article enlightening. I just answer some question with my limited knowledge about NFTs. If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to drop them in the comment section below. Also I have a question for you, Is bitcoin an NFTs? let me know in The comment section below

Trump has laid out his vision for a ârecord-setting deportation operationâ in a series of rally speeches, newspaper articles and social media posts. He intends to move swiftly after inauguration day next January to stage mass roundups of immigrants across the country, conducting raids inside big cities where he would face certain Democratic opposition.

News comes as Labourâs Chris Webb wins back âred wallâ Blackpool South Westminster seat held by Tories since 2019
The results of the London mayoral contest and London assembly elections are due on Saturday. Labourâs Sadiq Khan is seeking a third term and polls have put him comfortably ahead of Tory Susan Hall, despite jitters in Khanâs campaign team.
Following the closure of the polls tonight, Khan said his campaign and Labour activists âsent out a message of fairness, of equality and of hopeâ.

At the start of a long weekend of election results, the first outcomes have been every bit as dire for the Conservatives and Rishi Sunak as analysts had predicted. With almost half the council elections declared, and a handful of metro mayoral results in, here is the state of play.

The Conservatives have secured victory in one of the most high-profile metro mayoral votes of the local elections after Ben Houchen clung on to his post in Tees Valley, a result that could prove to be a political lifeline for Rishi Sunak.
Houchen was defending a huge majority and was elected despite a 16.5 percentage point swing to Labour. He won 81,930 votes (53.6%) against 63,141 (41.3%) for Labour and 7,679 (5%) for the Liberal Democrats. At the last election he won 73% of the votes.

In the weeks immediately preceding an election, government resources are not meant to be deployed for party political campaigns. The convention â commonly called âpurdahâ but officially described as the âpre-election period of sensitivityâ â is not an enforceable prohibition. It relies on deference to democratic protocol and an intuitive sense of what constitutes fair play in the electoral arena.
The Conservative party has abandoned those qualities. The period running up to Thursdayâs local, mayoral and police commissioner elections across England have been punctuated with government announcements that look customised more for campaign purposes than practical administration. In the days before the polls open, the Home Office has boasted of successfully flying an asylum seeker to Rwanda, and released a video showing immigration enforcement officers raiding homes and putting people in secure vans ready for deportation.

Continue reading...We seem to have reached the stage where Sunakâs MPs seek empathy for their inability to comply with their own policies
Are you, like me, struggling to get a handle on the current governmentâs approach to empathy? It increasingly seems to be a commodity that many Conservative MPs believe should be available to Conservative MPs only. A few weeks ago the chancellor, Jeremy Hunt, described William Wragg â fellow Tory MP and then-chair of the public administration and constitutional affairs committee â as âcourageousâ. By way of a reminder, âcourageousâ is the sort of word we would typically reserve for people whoâve singlehandedly held a bridge for the Allies against the Germans despite being wounded/posted a picture on social media of themselves without makeup; whereas Mr Wragg had simply shared MPsâ private phone numbers with a blackmailer in the current security environment. Is that brave? If it is, can the no-makeup girls please get a VC?
Further bravery seems to have been on show during yesterdayâs local elections, which took place under electoral law changed by the Tories in 2022. All voters are now required to present an approved form of photo ID, which even Jacob Rees-Mogg last year implied was an attempt to âgerrymanderâ and âupset a system that worked perfectly wellâ. Flash-forward to the eve of this weekâs polls, and the Ipswich MP Tom Hunt â who, naturally, voted in favour of voter ID â could be found informing a WhatsApp group of local party members that it âturns out I have no appropriate ID to vote tomorrowâ, and requesting someone to âdo the honoursâ and assist him in getting an emergency proxy vote. Unclear which lucky local did âthe honoursâ, but Ipswich Labour used a screenshot of his APB in their own ad to remind people that they need voter ID, warning: âDonât be like Tom.â

Pollsters say early results suggest Tories could lose half of council seats contested, putting party on course for as many as 500 losses
Keir Starmer has hailed Labourâs âseismicâ win in Blackpool South in a night of local elections that provided further evidence that the party is heading for a large majority at this yearâs general election.
The Labour leader called the result in the Blackpool South byelection âtruly historicâ after the partyâs candidate, Chris Webb, won the seat with the third biggest swing from the Conservatives to Labour in postwar history.
Continue reading...Selecting a fourth Conservative prime minister in two years would make this country even more of a laughing stock
The threat facing Rishi Sunak on Friday has been clearly signalled for months. Disastrous Conservative performances in this weekâs local and mayoral English contests â the last significant test of the political mood before the general election â could open the window of opportunity for his party to topple his leadership. Before a single local election vote had been cast, it was clear that a minority of MPs were determined to attempt this. Mr Sunak has known for months that this is a moment of vulnerability.
It is not yet clear whether the Conservativesâ results are sufficiently dire to trigger a more widespread revolt. The votes have not even all been counted yet. But this will not deter the prime ministerâs committed opponents. Talk of MPs submitting letters to the chair of the backbench 1922 Committee, Sir Graham Brady, demanding a confidence vote will grow predictably loud over the weekend. Whether a confidence vote will actually happen remains a question for the future.

In Joe Bidenâs TikTok debut, timed to the Super Bowl in February, the president answered rapid-fire questions like âChiefs or Niners?â (neither, he picked the Eagles because his wifeâs a âPhilly girlâ) and flashed the Dark Brandon meme. Unlike Boris Johnson, did you remember to take ID when you went to vote yesterday? Did you remember to take the right kind? Or, like one in seven Britons, did you have no idea you needed ID to vote? Or, like at least 2 million Britons, did you have no acceptable voter ID at all?
Until last year, when the 2022 Elections Act came into effect, British elections were free of these questions. For centuries, despite the slow, sometimes hugely contentious expansion of the electorate, and the acrimonious and distrustful character of our politics, voters were not required to produce documents in polling stations to prove who they were. This country did not believe in identity cards, many of our politicians proudly told us â particularly Tories. As the then shadow home secretary, Chris Grayling, put it in 2009, shortly before his party returned to power: âID cards ⌠are both an affront to British liberty and will have no place in a Conservative Britain. They are also a huge waste of money.â

But hey, whatâs a row over election purdah, given the amount of souls sold to get this far? All that matters to this government now is getting someone on a plane to Kigali in front of the TV cameras, a tunnel vision that has so far spectacularly failed to woo back lost voters, while costing the country years of parliamentary and legal wrangling, roughly half a billion pounds, and now yet another rift with friends and allies.

PM responds to reports regional women camping out, sleeping in cars
Anthony Albanese has commented on reports that carparks in regional areas are being opened for women to sleep in tents or their cars.
We have allocated funding through our Housing Australia Future Fund for emergency accommodation for women and children escaping domestic violence. I will be in discussions with the states and territories as well about what more can be done.
We know that the circumstances where a woman is escaping a violent situation [and] has to sleep in her car or surf on a couch of a friend and rotate around, we hear stories about that as well, is unacceptable in 2024. We need to do better. Thereâs no question about that.
We need to look at bail laws. More importantly, we actually need to look at how we can keep women, or victims and children in the home environment and force the perpetrator to leave. We have a program in NSW called the Staying Home: Leave Violence program. There are over 138 LGAs in this state at the moment, only 91 have access to that program, even though we know it is incredibly effective. We need programs like that funded immediately, not just across NSW but across the country.
I am optimistic about who we are as a country and our capacity to take responsibility for ourselves. The time of us to do this is now. We donât have three months, which is what the government is suggesting, to wait and see what happens next. By then another 23 women will have lost their lives.

âThereâs no human being who can resist what the most resistant of our presidents has been suffering in recent years,â AlmodĂłvar wrote in an open letter, published days before SĂĄnchez announced he would stay on, depicting SĂĄnchez as a politician who had potentially reached his breaking point.

The prime minister has backed a police crackdown on any outbreak of disorder on university campuses after Jewish students said pro-Palestinian encampments were creating a âhostile and toxic atmosphereâ.

Your claim that âRachel Reeves prefers a deadening consensus, sacrificing policies to placate businessâ is absurd, and fails to recognise the radicalism of Reevesâ recent Mais lecture (Editorial, 28 April). Although the need for fiscal stability was mentioned, the main theme of the lecture was quite different. It was about Britainâs increasing economic backwardness â âa failure to deliver the supply-side reform needed to equip Britain to compete in a fast-changing worldâ.
Reevesâs allocation of primacy to institutional reform recalls the analysis of economic backwardness by the great Harvard economic historian Alexander Gerschenkron. Gerschenkron argued that economic success derives from the development of new institutions that channel funds into the large-scale investment that is necessary not just to catch up but to surpass successful competitors.

Rory Scothorne suggests that Westminster had a hand in Humza Yousafâs demise (Humza Yousafâs clumsiness meant he had to jump â but Westminster also gave him a push, 29 April). In fact, the majority of the electorate in Scotland do not want a second independence referendum, the gender recognition reform bill contravened the UK-wide Equality Act, and the deposit return scheme was ill thought through. Yousaf was the architect of his own demise via a pattern of lack of judgment.
Announcing a council tax freeze without consulting his partners in government and the local authorities that would have to fund the freeze, chasing Recep Tayyip ErdoÄan, the Turkish president, for a photo opportunity, and the decision to dump the Greens did it. A politician lacking political nous will always have his coat on a shoogly peg.

You may not be into snooker, dear reader. You may not be into sport at all. But really, this is not about sport. In losing yesterday to Stuart Bingham in the quarter-final of the World Snooker Championship, Ronnie OâSullivan proved himself a contender for the worldâs most sporting sports star. He may have lost, but in doing so he showed there are still standards in public life, and some people do care about doing the right thing. Not something we see often these days.
Hereâs what happened. Yesterday afternoon, with Ronnie leading by six frames to five, he potted a black ball. When it was returned to its spot, it should have obstructed his next red ball, making it trickier for him to progress. But there was a tiny divot on the table, and the black ball wobbled ever so slightly from its spot, making access to the red simple. Ronnie wasnât having any of it. He asked the ref time and again to replace the black to make it more difficult for him. But the black wasnât having any of it either, and kept bobbling away.

The web has become so interwoven with everyday life that it is easy to forget what an extraordinary accomplishment and treasure it is. In just a few decades, much of human knowledge has been collectively written up and made available to anyone with an internet connection.
But all of this is coming to an end. The advent of AI threatens to destroy the complex online ecosystem that allows writers, artists, and other creators to reach human audiences.
To understand why, you must understand publishing. Its core task is to connect writers to an audience. Publishers work as gatekeepers, filtering candidates and then amplifying the chosen ones. Hoping to be selected, writers shape their work in various ways. This article might be written very differently in an academic publication, for example, and publishing it here entailed pitching an editor, revising multiple drafts for style and focus, and so on...

In addition to mobile apps, you can use Canvaâs integration with other Internet services to add images and text from sources like Google Maps, Emojis, photos from Google Drive and Dropbox, YouTube videos, Flickr photos, Bitmojis, and other popular visual content elements.
In general, Canva is an excellent tool for those who need simple images for projects. If you are a graphic designer with experience, you will find Canvaâs platform lacking in customization and advanced features â particularly vectors. But if you have little design experience, you will find Canva easier to use than advanced graphic design tools like Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator for most projects.
